$BEACH Partners with Ocean Sole

  • Dec. 1, 2021

$BEACH is delighted to announce a partnership with Ocean Sole!

Ocean Sole are a social enterprise that upcycles washed up flip-flops found along the beaches and waterways in Kenya. Inspired by the toys children were making out of the flip-flop debris, Julie Church, the Ocean Sole Founder, encouraged their mothers to collect, wash, and cut the discarded flip-flops into colourful products to sell at local Kenyan Markets as another means of income for their families.

Much like $BEACH, Ocean Sole is about providing employment and opportunity as well as cleaning our oceans. To date, Ocean Sole have positively impacted over 1,000 Kenyans through direct employment and the collection of flip-flops, and provide steady income to nearly 100 low-income Kenyans in their company. They aim to recycle a million flip flops year, over one tonne of styrofoam a month, and save over five hundred trees a year — by using flip flops instead of wood. They contribute over 10–15% of their revenue to beach cleanups, vocational and educational programmes as well as conservation efforts.

$BEACH is delighted to be partnering with this inspiring, creative and sole-ful organisation to fund direct beach clean ups along the Kenyan coastline.

$BEACH has already bought some of their artwork for our office (see below), and will be buying a couple more for a social media competition, so watch out for that in our Telegram Room!
