The Beach Collective is a blue circular economy platform powered by its native currency $BEACH. Rather than paying card fees to Visa or Mastercard, when you transact using $BEACH you pay the planet and oceans.
In a pilot of what island-wide adoption of $BEACH could look like, on World Oceans Day (8th June), The Beach Collective organised a beach clean near North Sounds golf club in partnership with Plastic Free Cayman and Protect Our Future with students from the islands. Students over the age of 16 were rewarded in $BEACH which were then spent at a nearby restaurant, Tomfoodery in Camana Bay.
With island-wide adoption of $BEACH, the Beach Collective could ringfence any of the transactions tax for clean oceans and blue carbon initiatives within the Cayman Islands, including extensive mangrove conservation, coral reef restoration, beach cleans and circular economy initiatives. This would further enhance Cayman Islands’ international reputation for both financial innovation and sustainability.
So far the Beach Collective has cleared over 70,000kg of waste from the oceans, have leased a seaweed farm in Scotland, have mangrove restoration projects running in two countries, sea turtle conservation in another and have provided over 2500 days of employment to coastal communities in 14 countries - all from the transactions tax of its currency $BEACH."
